Born in 1965 in Kiev, Ukraine, Vadim Tuzov grew up in a small village outside of Kiev known there for its large forests, extensive wildlife and horse breeding. He spent his childhood in a small house where, until this day, sits his first bronze sculpture – a small horse, which he made at the age of 12. Vadim attended Junior School of Art, before going on to study drawing and sculpture at the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture in Kiev. He began sculpting full-time in the late 80s and later moved to Ireland with his family, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. Vadim had the privilege of observing wildlife from when he was a child and later during intensive research trips to many corners of the world.

He spent a lot of time working in collaboration with other Irish artists and in recent years he became a freelance sculptor, taking on private commissions and exhibiting his own work. His sculptures are located in many gardens and private collections in Ireland and many countries of Western and Eastern Europe, Asia and the Americas.

The inspiration for Vadim’s work stretches back to a childhood fascination with wild animals and their farm cousins. His bronze wildlife sculptures illustrate natural moments of animal life through his own interpretation. His style is unique – he habitually works in an impulsive, individualised style with a confidence obtained from many years of mastering his craft. Vadim performs the whole bronze sculpture creation process with his own hands – from a piece of clay to the patination. This confident handling of materials, coupled with an understanding of anatomy, results in dynamic ‘living’ sculptures, which portray the essence, strength and grace of his animal subjects.
Each piece, carefully worked, is either unique or is part of a very small edition of three and can be found at Jorgensen Fine Art and Solomon Fine Art galleries.
